Avia Avi-Lite 2 Shoe : Ultralight Performance

Having previously been an infrequent runner, I'm somewhat amazed that I've been following through with a running routine I started just a couple of months ago. I rewarded my efforts with a shoe upgrade to a pair of Avia Avi-Lite 2 Running Shoes.  

As the name implies, this shoe is a re-engineered version of Avia's Avi-Lite model. I never owned the original, so I don't know which specific modifications were made.  I do know, however, that the Avi-Lite 2 delivers just what I was hoping for in a lightweight high performance running shoe.

At just under one pound and seven ounces, the Avi-Lite 2 is easily the lightest pair of shoes in my closet.  At first I was skeptical of their light weight because I thought they would feel flimsy on my feet. My experience on the track reassured me that they were up to the task.. They lack mass but are well-designed, using cutting edge materials. As a result, they feel just as solid as much heavier shoes.   The reduced weight greatly increases my running efficiency.

For the most part the upper is quite minimal. The exception to this is the area around the back that supports the heel.   I have narrow heels so often my heel wiggles no matter how tight the laces. In these shoes, my heel stays planted on the foot bed at all times.   

The sole has ample shock absorption in the heel and forefoot to take the brunt of repeated strides on hard surfaces. It also flexes naturally. I appreciate the arch support that fits and supports my foot well.
