Bite X-Trac OS Sandals : Trail-Ready Footwear

I'm a fan of big clunky sandals, especially if they perform like shoes. Bite's X-Trac OS sandals are designed for action with a thick, sturdy sole, adjustable straps, and an extended rubber toe lip.

I like the firm soles because they provide the stability and support I need for long walks and short hikes. Most people incorrectly assume that a soft, flexible sole is the most comfortable, but the designers at Bite Shoes know better. A thicker, firmer sole provides stability and protection from rough trails. I can walk a lot farther in my Bite sandals than in other, less substantial sandals. In fact, many people wear Bite sandals for trail running, too. Due to injuries, I haven't taken them for a run, just on short hikes near my home.

Bite has thoughtfully lined the leather straps with soft neoprene that hugs my feet and prevents blisters. It's like a built-in sock. The extended toe lip is a great idea; my toes don't get scuffed when I stumble!

What I like best about these sandals is that I can remove the well-cushioned footbed and replace it with my full-length orthotic so I get a more custom fit.

Bottom Line: Anyone looking for sandals that can handle outdoor activities or who needs an orthotic friendly sandal should give Bite a look. Available in men's and women's styles and sizes.--E. .D. (July '05)
