Columbia Million Mile II Pant : On the Road Again
I know the situation doesn't come up every day, but let's say you're headed to the jungle for an archeological dig and can take only one pair of pants. Too exotic? How about a trip to Disneyland after a stopover to visit to your aunt in Cincinnati? Too mundane? Suppose you're headed out for a hike and not sure if you should take long pants or shorts. Bingo! In all cases, Columbia's Million Mile II Pant is the ticket. Made of wicking, quick-dry fabric, these extremely lightweight, durable pants have two zip-closure pockets below the standard hip pockets - ideal for passport, trail snacks, compass, cell phone or blow darts -- as well as two snap pockets in the rear. In short, ample storage for artifacts should you make a major find. What I appreciate most, however, is how they feel, or, to be more precise, how they don't feel. The 100% nylon double-weave material is so light it's almost as if you're wearing nothing at all. The MMII are easily as comfortable as baggy board shorts, and you can wear them in situations when shorts aren't the best choice - when you want protection from sun, poison ivy, or to avoid evil looks from your aunt in Cincinnati. Note: these pants also come in a convertible style, with zip-off pant legs. Bottom Line: Lightweight, quick-drying, extremely comfortable, moisture-wicking pants suitable for work or, say, nosing around Easter Island.--J.G.
