Golite BL-2 Longsleeve Baselayer

Fall might be my favorite season for hitting the high country. Not only do I love the colors and refreshing-cool nights but ski season is just around the corner. I recently tested Golite's BL-2 long sleeve baselayer, and it's proven be a practical and versatile layer.

Like all Golite products, the BL-2 top is built with efficiency in mind, and there's nary an extra ounce of fabric. It fits like a glove around my torso. This makes donning and shedding extra layers a snap because the top stays put and doesn't get bunched up. The great fit also makes it warmer because there are no openings or loose areas to let in cold air against my skin.

I wore my BL-2 on a hike that had a long south-facing traverse that alternated between heavy timber and open meadow. The temperature in the open was noticeably warmer than in the shade. However, it was impractical to constantly take my jacket on and off. After a bit of fiddling I ended up putting on a hat and gloves with my Golite baselayer. I had to rely on the wicking and drying ability of my BL-2 to keep me dry as I sweated across the sunny stretches and warm when I ducked into the shade. It was all good.

The BL-2 is available in men's and women's styles in a variety of colors. Golite also makes a whole line of efficient-minded, lightweight clothing and gear for hiking, backpacking, trail-running and similar activities.

Bottom LIne: A streamlined baselayer that's sure to be a hit in a variety of seasons.--A.S. (Oct 09)
