Helly Hansen Trailwizard Tight : Not So Tight
I don't mean to get sappy, but I've been looking for a pair of comfortable tights like Helly Hansen's Trailwizard tights for most of my running life. I have a few pairs of perfectly fine tights, but they're tights in the sense of Rockette tights: form-fitting and, well, tight. I've been wearing them for years and haven't complained much, but after wearing my new Trailwizard tights for the past several weeks it's become very clear to me that I've been repressing my tights issues. First, getting into and out of those old tights was a taxing wiggle-fest. Second, I lack a backside, so my tight tights made that fact way too obvious. (Others, who have too much in the trunk, may experience a similar self-consciousness.) Clearly, what I've needed, and finally found, is a relaxed fit pair of tights that feels and looks good but still keeps my legs warm and unencumbered. The Trailwind tights use HH's stay-dry LIFA technology, designed to wick moisture away from skin. They have mesh venting just below the waistband in the back to keep me cool in spring temps. The stylish white markings on the outside of each leg add pizzazz but are, in fact, reflective print for runners who log miles before or after the sun shines. There's also a front pocket for keys. Bottom Line: These not-so-tight tights have side zippers so it's easy to put them on and take them off without having to remove your running shoes. The Trailwizards have an elastic waistband, but no drawstring--so check the size chart to make sure you order the right size. --J. G.
