Keen Targhee Shoe : The Only Shoe I Need
I normally stay away from lightweight trail shoes because they don’t provide the support, cushioning, and stability I need. The exception to this rule has become Keen footwear. Their new Targhee shoe (which also comes in a boot style) is the only lightweight trail shoe I’ve ever liked. In fact, I like these shoes so much I wear them every day. Keen has done a great job with the Targhee in balancing comfort and functionality. The thick soles are firm, but not stiff. So I feel like my feet roll heel to toe with each step rather than flexing too much every time I take a step. My favorite thing about the Targhee is the fit - Keen shoes are designed to accommodate an actual human foot, with a boxy style that gives me the width and depth I need (I can even remove the insole and replace it with my full-length custom orthotic) without looky boxy. The Targhees also have a rounded toe box (covered in a thick rubber bumper on the outside) so my toes have the room they need. I also like the quick-lace system (the laces are slippery, so remember to double-tie them), tiny reflective strips (I walk at night, so it’s good that approaching cars can see me), and the waterproof materials used in the uppers. I walk in the rain all the time, so I appreciate a shoe that can keep my feet dry. I even stood in the shower with these shoes on while testing some rainwear, and my feet stayed dry! Another reason I love these shoes -- they cover a lot of ground, so I don’t have to pack as many shoes when I travel. Bottom Line: The Targhees come in men’s, women’s, and children’s sizes and in a variety of colors. They’re perfect for light hiking, power walking, and daily wear.--E.D.
