Mountain Khakis Alpine Pant : Tough as Nails

Last month I said that the Mountain Khakis Teton Twill pant was perfect for a variety of alpine activities, including chopping wood. This month, I'd like to introduce you to the most hard-working pant in the Mountain Khakis family, The Alpine Pant (or, for men, The Alpine Utility Pant). Yes, you can chop wood in this pant, too, AFTER you build the cabin.

Made out of a tough duck canvas with triple-stitched seams, the Alpine Pant is built to live the most rugged mountain lifestyle. Although I haven't quite lived up to my Alpine Pant yet, I plan to as soon as I find a project that's challenging enough. Considering that I have a closet full of jeans with blown knees and shredded pant legs, I really appreciate that MK reinforces the knees and back hems of the Alpine's pant legs with an extra layer of material.

I'm also impressed by how well-made these pants are. For such a rugged pant on the outside, the inside is smooth and finished, every stitch in place and every edge of material concealed with soft cotton seam sealers. I like the five roomy pockets and the adjustable button tabs on the waistband of the women's pant (so I don't have to wear a belt if I want to cinch up my pants a bit.) Another bonus: the pant comes in different lengths.

The men's pant (pictured top left) is a relaxed fit, and is available in two colors, ranch and yellowstone. The women's Alpine (pictured top right) is available in sizes 0-16, and in one color, ranch. This pant is also relaxed, but with a more shapely fit. I think the women's pant runs big, so you might want to order a size smaller than usual.
