Mountainsmith Dart : The Fast Pack

I normally don't like wearing lumbar packs; I'd rather use a small backpack. But when it's 85 degrees and I'm three miles into a long walk or a short hike, it's nice to have options.

The Mountainsmith Dart pack is ideal for long or fast walks where I need water with me, but don't need carrying capacity. I can throw money and a Lara bar in the zippered pocket, strap in my water jug (it stays in place well, which is comfy), and go, go, go.

The triangle shape and padded mesh back contribute to a great fit; this little pack is hardly noticeable. I also like the wide waistband and sturdy plastic snap buckle. Another handy feature: a small loop on top of the pack. I can hang it from the inside of my tent when camping, attach it to a backpack with a karabiner, or store it on a nail in my closet.

Bottom Line: Ideal for power walkers, hikers, runners, and anyone else who wants to travel light and stay hydrated.--E.D. (July '07)
