Nau Lean Jean : All Natural, Totally Cool

The amazing thing about Nau's new Lean Jean is how I get the sleek look and slim fit I like without a speck of Lycra and without that smothering sensation in my thighs I have to endure with skinny jeans.

These ultra cool jeans fit great without hugging my body. As always with Nau, it's about line and movement. The Lean Jeans keep it simple with a straight leg style, and add some flava with contrast stitching and simple metal grommets at the top corners of the pockets and at the bottom edges of the slanted belt loops.

They're nice and long, and each pant leg has a small v notch at the bottom of the outside hem that helps my pant legs lay perfectly across the tops of my shoes or boots (so I don't get that bunched up look above my ankles).

I love the low-rise waist (they're low, but not immodest), and the three-button fly style, but what truly makes this pant my new favorite jean is the fabric. The Lean Jeans are made out of lightweight denim; they feel lighter than most twill or khaki pants I own. This light fabric gives the pant an unstructured feel, despite the trim profile. I get the lean look I like without heavy, clinging material around my thighs. Nice.

Now, these are women's jeans (Nau also makes men's jeans), so I can't really not mention the rear view. Too many jeans either give me a bubble butt or a flat butt, or worse, leave me without adequate rear coverage. Nau has ingeniously fixed this problem through a combination of design and fabric choice. There's a slightly arced piece of material that runs from each side seam underneath the back of the waistband which, I have to admit, makes my seat look pretty darn sweet. That's no small bonus in a jean.

The Lean Jean is made out of 100 percent organic cotton. Nau doesn't use chemical dyes or rinses to soften them up or give them a worn-in look. They're naturally soft, and as for fading and tears, that's up to you.

Bottom Line: The perfect weight for Spring and Summer, Nau's Lean Jean has become the bottom half of my daily uniform. They fit true to size, although I went up a size for a baggy fit, and they still have a nice slim look. Not to brag or anything, but I receive compliments on my Lean Jeans every time I wear them!--E.D. (April 08)
