New Balance Sawyer Long Sleeve Top : Casual Fit, Athletic Performance

Fresh snow right outside my front door for the past couple of weeks has given methe perfect opportunity to do some urban XC skiing and break-in my New Balance Sawyer Long Sleeve Top. Temps have been in the 20s and 30s, so I bypassed a jacket because I knew once I found a comfortable striding rhythm I'd warm up.    

I'm not exactly sure why New Balance calls this a "casual" garment.   It seems like a performance top to me.  The Sawyer top doesn't have the bells and whistles of NB's top of the line garments, but it has definitely been good to me these last couple of weeks. It has a soft texture against my skin, and it kept me dry and warm even in the heat of a good workout. I also like that the label is printed right on the fabric, so there's no tag to itch or stick out.

I often choose darker colors for my athletic clothes but my Sawyer top is light gray. Since I was mostly skiing on roads I was glad to have the extra visibility of a light color.   Also, the light gray has a slight sheen that I think makes it easier to see from a distance. This would be equally useful for twilight jogs.

The Sawyer Top is also available as a short sleeve.   Both come in men's sizes S-2XL.
