Of the Earth Diffused Sweater : Look Better, Feel Better, Save the Planet

Hoodies have evolved. The usually look like they should be old, torn, and stained -- but Of the Earth's Diffused sweater redefines all that. Think "hip, uber-classy hoodie." Think "apres-surf apparel, but at an organic brewery." Think "top of choice at a tasting room after of cycling through wine country."

The Diffused sweater is made of merino wool, that oh-so-soft material shorn from merino sheep. It provides all the benefits of wool, so it keeps me warm when it's wet and it doesn't absorb smells -- but it's also as soft and comfy as cotton flannel. I can't even begin to explain how soft it is; that's the first thing I noticed when I put it on. I wore it out for a night on the town recently, and enjoyed staying the proper temperature the whole evening. While I was outside I wasn't too cold, and while I was inside I wasn't too hot. 

I also need give the Of the Earth sweater high marks on the style front. The sweater looks good. It's an undyed natural cotton color with contrasting blue stitching around the hood. It's also got a nice looking zipper -- which, from a functional standpoint, is awesome since it's super beefy and looks like it won't ever break. The seams are all on the outside of the top, so I can really enjoy that soft merino wool against my skin with no chafing. 

Then there's the whole social responsibility aspect of wearing this top. Of the Earth is an awesome company. Its products are made out of low impact, natural, and/or organic materials. Also, the founders have created the Of the Earth Foundation, which gives 10 percent of the company's net profit each year to humanitarian or environmental causes.

Bottom Line: Stylish all-natural top that makes me feel good when I've got it on -- because it's oh-so-soft and because I'm supporting a socially responsible company. -- N.W. (Dec '07)
