Outdoor Research Meridian Skort : Trail to Town
It's not essential that my outdoor gear is cute, but it's a nice bonus. Outdoor Research has a fun line of active wear for women this spring, and they've done an excellent job of designing fashionable, durable apparel for trail and town. I also like this season's color palette -- no pastels here, just rich, warm colors such as teak, slate, black, and rust. (Men, you'll like the Axis shorts, made out of similar material.) My favorite piece is the Meridian Skort, which seems to have been designed especially for me. I love the low-cut fit, which doesn't really have a defined waistband. This style gives the skort an athletic fit that I think will work well for most women. The Meridian is also the perfect length. Short enough for hot weather, long enough to cover most of my thighs. The skirt layer is made out of a stretchy, water-resistant nylon, with contrast stitching on the front pockets, a hidden back zipper, and a discreet logo on the front of the skort. Underneath is a pair of relaxed fit cycling-style tights, with a small key pocket. It's a comfortable combination. The fit and stretchy material give me total freedom of movement. I feel guilty saying it because I don't want to discount the Meridian's performance on the trail, but I won't be putting it in my "outdoor clothes" dresser. I'll be wearing it every day. (see review of another OR item...the Vivid Vest) Bottom Line: I love this comfy skort. It's well designed, and far too cute for mountain use only.--E.D.
