OR Vert Pant : Against all Elements

When my mind is set on a hike or power walk, I don't let a little rain and wind get in my way. In fact, I take great pride in marching out into blustery January days to claim my territory. When I'm wearing the right gear, the weather just doesn't seem to matter as much.

My OR Vert pants came in very handy this winter. They did an excellent job of protecting my legs from the whipping wind and blasts of drizzle. On cold days, I wore them over my SmartWool lightweight base layer tights. The Vert pants are made out of a lightweight, water-resistant fabric with enough lycra in it to move when I move. So when I have to scramble over rocks or fallen trees, my pants don't bind my legs. I also like the wide elastic (with drawstring) waistband, almost low-rise cut, and the zippered, slightly tapered pant legs. My pants legs never get in my way, and the zippers are offset so they don't rub together when I walk.

My favorite features: the deep front pockets and zipped back pocket. So many apparel companies skimp on the pockets of women's pants, but OR makes their women's gear with the same useful features as their men's gear.

Bottom Line: OR has done an excellent job of designing and constructing a comfortable, durable, all-purpose outdoor pant. The Vert pant is also available in men's sizes.--E.D. (April '05)
