Prana Nitro Pullover : Less Fuss, More Heat
When I first put on this pullover I found way more insulation value than I expected. What I didn't find were zippers, buttons, snaps, Velcro strips, pockets, drawstrings, a hood, or anything else to complicate my world. Don't get me wrong. I love all sorts of pockets, fasteners, adjusters, and other nifty do-dads. It's just that I don't always need to bring the kitchen sink when I leave the house. Sometimes less is more. In this case, a well-fitting smartly designed pullover is just the ticket. I've been wearing Prana's Nitro Pullover primarily as a light outer layer around town (like a sweatshirt), and have been quite impressed with how well the organic cotton/polyester fleece keeps out the chill. What's most impressive is that this pullover provides the same warmth as other tops I have that are bulkier and heavier. For one reason or another I frequently end up walking or jogging out in the rain. On one such evening I decided to give the Nitro a try as an insulation layer under a light rain shell. It did a great job. I stayed warm and dry, and the streamlined fit worked nicely under my shell without extra fabric bunching up. I have used it similarly several times since. The Prana Nitro Pullover has also proven to be quite a nice lay-around-the-house-after-dinner-watching-TV-in-my-pajamas kind of top. Because of its no-frills design, the Nitro seems appropriate for such a wide variety of uses. Bottom LIne: The Nitro is a marriage of old and new. It has a soft, organic feel reminiscent of my well-worn, faded and paint-splattered cotton sweatshirt from college, but has wicking and insulation characteristics more typical of modern synthetic fabrics. Smart design and innovative fabric makes this pullover a fuss-free and versatile addition to any wardrobe. Price: $50 Manufacturer's Site: www.prana.com
