Stretching Anatomy : An Illustrated Guide to Flexibility

No more excuses! If you're going to ski, snowshoe, climb, run, cycle, or work at a desk, you need to start paying attention to your flexibility.

Stretching Anatomy (published by Human Kinetics) makes it easy to get back into a stretching routine with simple instructions, color illustrates, and technique tips to help you use correct form.

What makes this book stand out from other stretching books I've used is the focus on anatomy. Every stretch includes a muscle map so that I can see exactly which muscles I'm stretching. Knowing the anatomy of each movement has helped me focus on each stretch. It may sound woo-woo, but visualizing my muscles while stretching helps me get deeper into each stretch and pay closer attention to my form. So, I'm learning more about my body and exercising more effectively.

Stretching Anatomy is divided into several sections for each area of the body. Each section begins with an explanation of the location and functions of the the major and minor muscle groups of that area.

I especially like the sections on arm, wrist, foot, and ankle stretches---areas that are easy to forget. My arms get pretty sore from writing all these reviews, and I appreciate the variety of arm stretches this book provides.

Bottom Line: This is a must-have book for anyone. The authors manage to pack in a lot of useful information without overloading the book with text. Plus, it's so simple to use.--E.D. (Nov '07)
