Swany 20" Walkin' Bag : Wheel on Through to the Other Side

I used to hate people who brought all their gear on the plane with them. I hated the airlines attendants even more for allowing them to crowd the cabin with over-sized bags that were clearly meant to be checked. Then I got a carry-on bag of my own, a beautiful wheeled case which fits FAA regulation size requirements and holds everything I need for a week away from home. I'm never checking bags again.

The Swany Walkin' Bag looks like many other black wheeled carry-on bags, but it's so much more. With four all-direction wheels and a super strong internal frame, the Walkin' Bag is more durable and easier to use than any bag I've ever used. One of the benefits Swany advertises is that it takes 1/6 the energy to navigate this case from A to B. So true. Rather than pull it behind me, as I would have to with a two-wheeled bag, I can walk with the bag at my side, gently rolling it along with me.

On a recent trip to the midwest, I wheeled my bag on both hard and carpeted airport floors with ease. The bag is so stable that even though I often stumbled under the weight of my packed-to-the-brim computer bag, it never tipped over once. The telescoping handle is designed to distribute my weight over the center of the bag, so maneuvering it is a breeze. The handle is built to support up to 200 pounds, and the reinforced case will support 300 lbs. So I can lean on my bag when I'm tired, and I can sit on it when I have to wait in long security lines.

Inside the case, there are several zippered mesh bags attached to the bottom of the case with velcro. I use these for my prescriptions, cosmetics, and other small items. These pocket are ideally situated so that my small items fill in the narrow gaps along the inside of the case where the bars of the handle are located. No wasted space.

For my three-week trip, I packed the usual, in zippered pouches: about six pairs of socks, four bras, ten pairs of underwear, one pair of pants, two pairs of capri pants (one for evenings, one for hiking), three pairs of shorts, two skirts, sandals, a swimsuit, six tops, and more. I used the zippered mesh pockets on the inside of the lid for my jewelry case, two books, and my traveling pens. In the the outside pockets, I packed flip-flops, my address book, an extra mouthguard, and two small packets of tissues. I also packed my dust mite-proof pillow case and two more books in the fourth outer pocket, located on the back of the case. So, I haven't exactly learned how to bring less stuff, but at least I travel in comfort and never worry that my suitcase is going to fall apart half-way through my trip.

Bottom LIne: The Swany bag is a serious case for hard-core travelers. I love how easy it is to move through a crowd, and it holds everything I need (and more.) Stop traveling with flimsy suitcases that hurt your back. Get a Swany.--E. D. (June 07)
