Timbuk2 Messenger Back : "A Big Purse...or a Small Briefcase"
I've always been a backpack person: who cares if I look like a student! But I secretly harbored a big crush on Timbuk2's colorful messenger bags. Now that I have one, I've been leaving my backpack at home more often. I opted for the small bag, which, at 15"w x 10"h x5", is the perfect size (as Timbuk2 claims) to function as "a big purse or a small briefcase." It's the perfect size for me. I use it for meetings because I'm always running late, and it's so easy to throw in a few folders, a notebook, a day planner, and a handful of pens. It's also ideal for trips (when I'm also running late) to carry those last minute items like my iPod, my lunch, and a few magazines. Another "iminahurry" feature I love is the velcro closure on the front of the bag. All I have to do is press the flap down to close the bag. When I have more time, I can also seal the bag with two straps. On the rare occasions that I pack ahead of time, I use the many internal zippered pouches for pens, my wallet, lip balm, jump drives, and other essentials. Inside the main zippered pouch, there's also a key ring--a good idea for me because I always lose my keys. There's also a double pocket (a zippered pocket on top of a long pouch-like pocket) on the front of the bag, under the flap, perfect for a boarding pass, passport, and other documents. I like that my Timbuk2 bag is made out of super tough nylon backed with rubber, so the inside of my bag stays dry even if the bag encounters some rain. I added the Timbuk2 Strap Pad to my adjustable strap for added comfort, and I always leave on the removable visibility reflectors that hang from the front straps. It makes me feel like a real messenger. After using the bag a few times, I thought that only thing that would make this bag better is a handle on top of the bag so I could carry it by hand instead of over my shoulder. Then I visited Timbuk2's web site and found out that I can have that handle added by sending the bag to Timbuk2! Bottom Line: My Timbuk2 bag gets a lot of use (and abuse). And it looks great. I love the small size; it's just right for running around town. Bags are sold at many outdoor, sports, and urban retailers. You can also order a custom made bag on Timbuk2's web site.--E .D.
