Timex Ironman 50-Lap Sleek Watch : More Features, Less Bulk

So I'm not running intervals (much less 5K's) anymore; I still want a watch that will keep me on track.

Timex's Ironman 50-Lap Sleek is a streamlined, lightweight version of the original Ironman watch. It's packed with handy features, but with less bulk than other fitness-oriented watches. Nice.

Available in both men's and women's sizes (pictured above), the Sleek has what you'd expect in an Ironman watch--a chronograph, two interval timers, a 99-lap counter, a 50-lap recall, and water resistant case--with a few extras.

Along with the attractive low profile design, Timex has improved the Indiglo feature since my last Ironman (more than 15 years ago--it still works)--the digital numbers turn neon blue, so I have no trouble reading them when I wake up in the middle of the night or when I'm out power walking in the dark. They've also made the buttons larger, so using the features is much easier.

My favorite new feature is the multiple alarm. I can set 3 different alarms throughout the day (or night). I can use all three to get me up in the morning, then set alarms to remind me to stop working and go exercise in the afternoon and to drop everything at 9p.m. and watch Grey's Anatomy. I like the jingly alarm chime, which is much more pleasant to wake up to than the usual beeping tone.

I also like the dual time zone feature. When traveling, I can keep track of my home time and my travel time. Nice.

The mid-sized Sleek is available in a variety of colors, including blue, pink, purple, green, and black. The men's version comes in black.

Bottom Line: A fully functional watch that's simple to use and more attractive than other clunky sports watches.--E.D. (Nov '07)
