Treksta Freedom Hiking Boots : Trail-Ready Footwear
As I hiked up to little Zig Zag falls in the Mt Hood national Forest, my 6-year old asked me, “dad where did you get those cool boots?” Cool is right-- and comfortable, too. From the first time I pulled on my Treksta Freedom hiking boots, my feet were happy. I definitely got that “aahh” feeling right out of the box. I didn’t experience any pinching or rubbing--usual red flags that future comfort problems might arise. On this 90+ degree July day, my feet stayed comfortable in these lightweight (2 lbs 5 oz) boots. They're also surprisingly stable, a feature I count on because I need ankle support. The Freedom is made out of nubuck leather and mesh, and features TrekSta’s Hypergrip® outsole. This proprietary high performance rubber compound is designed to perform well on trail and pavement. Their first test came when my daughter asked me to carry her across a rocky stream crossing so she could soak her bare feet in the cool (COLD!) mountain stream. The traction allowed me to carry my precious cargo across the moss covered rocks and back without slipping. This may sound funny, but when I tested these boots, I tried my best to scuff them along every trail and surface I encountered. Even pavement didn't make a mark. I think these boots were made for walking. The Freedom is available in men's sizes; women should check out the Peak or Trail Demon boots. Bottom Line: The Freedom is one of Trekstra's most economical boots. Check Trekstra's web site to see more models, including boots with Gore-Tex®.--M.P.
