Vasque Blur : Comfort at Any Speed

With such a wide variety of running shoe models available, it’s challenging to suggest any particular model for a large cross-section of runners and walkers. But if you’re adventurous enough to take a leap and give the Vasque Blur a try, it’s safe to say that you’ll be a satisfied user.

Out of the box and onto my feet, the Blur felt like a well-worn house slipper instead of a technical piece of footwear. The cushioning and soft interior of the upper enveloped my feet seamlessly. With a few minor adjustments to the lacing, I was ready to hit the trails.

And hit the trails I did—for a three-hour training run on muddy, undulating terrain. All the while, the Blurs did their job splendidly. The aggressive outsole gripped any rocks and slick mud I could throw their way. As the mercury rose in the thermometer, there was never a time when my feet felt like they were on the brink of overheating, a testament to the Blur’s breathable upper. None of the seams rubbed my feet the wrong way, a rarity with a fresh-out-of-the-box pair of trail running shoes. The amply wide toe-box gave my piggies plenty of room to spread out without encroaching upon one another and forming blisters.

Best of all, the Blur lived up to its name despite my gargantuan shoe size (13). It's a remarkably lightweight shoe, enabling me to feel as if I were floating above the trail (even if my running pace is much slower than an elite athlete's).

Styling, if it ’s important to you, is what I'd consider “attractive,” but not overdone. The Blur is a shoe that can easily make the transition from trail to tavern. Hikers in search of an alternative to clunky hiking boots will love the stability and freedom that the Blur offers.

Bottom Line: Vasque has another winner in their running shoe lineup with the Blur. Runners of all paces will appreciate the shoe’s light weight, nice styling, and combination of technical features. If you haven’t considered Vasque footwear in the past, the Blur is worth a look. – G.P. (April '06).
