There have been several articles of clothing that at one time or another I've sworn I would never wear. As time passes I've changed my mind about a few of them. Most recently I've become a fan of sleeveless insulation (a.k.a., the vest). In large part my reconsideration came from the opportunity to test a Weatherchaser Vest from Woolrich.
I'd seen this men's lightweight performance vest online and, despite my prejudices against sleeveless garments, decided that I liked the look of it. I had no idea Woolrich made such sporty looking gear. The vest is made out of a quick-drying polyester microfiber. The soft liner is bonded to the sleek outer shell, so I get comfort on the inside, weather protection on the outside, and it's still breathable.
Right from the start I was smitten by how lightweight and compactable this vest is. It's just right for cool mornings or evenings when I don't really need a jacket but want a little more insulation than a shirt. The Woolrich Weatherchaser Vest is treated to resist water and stains, which is perfect for me. I live in a rainy climate and have two toddlers who have already spilled a variety of beverages and other food items all over me. Every time, I just wipe my vest clean and there's no trace of the spill.
Another thing I like about the Weatherchaser Vest is that it's so small, much smaller than a long sleeve sweatshirt or fleece. It packs down into a tiny ball, so it's a non-issue to bring it "just in case" when I might not bring a more bulky item.
On the topic of looks, I like the "drop back" style. It gives the vest a refined appearance as well as providing a little plumber coverage when I bend over.
I've only had this vest during warm months but looking ahead I have no doubt my new vest will be a mainstay mid-layer through the cooler months. Woolrich also makes women's outdoor apparel.
