Yoga Anatomy
Anyone who practices or teaches yoga needs this book. Yoga Anatomy takes the mystery out of yoga by showing readers anatomical illustrations of each posture and breathing exercises, providing the English names of poses along with definitions and pronunciations of Sanskrit names, and by explaining the joint and muscle actions for each posture. The author, Leslie Kaminoff, founder of the Breathing Project in New York, does an excellent job of explaining basic alignment, the mechanics of breathing, and the different types of spinal movement. The book is worth buying for the illustrations alone. Students can see the muscles involved in each posture, which will help them create a mind-body connection which, in turn, will help them gain a deeper understanding of each move. Teachers have a handy graphic to use when explaining postures to their students. Kaminoff also includes text instructions with each posture that explain which muscles are stretched, strengthened, or otherwise "worked" during each exercise. He also explains the interaction between breath and movement, and alerts readers to potential obstacles and technique tips for a successful and safe practice. This fabulous book is a must-have item for yogis of all level of experience. Price: $19.95 Buy Online: Click here to purchase Yoga Anatomy Manufacturer's Site: www.humankinetics.com |
