Travel Essay Contest
What did you do on your summer vacation? Or winter vacation? Or last weekend? Why don't you tell us, and take a chance at winning some cool gear from Keen, Outdoor Research, Shred Alert, Hydrapak, PacSafe, Osprey, Crumpler, Steripen, Vasque, SIGG, Teva, and McNett.
FitnessTravelGear is looking for travel essays that will inspire our readers to plan their own adventures.
We're not looking for guidebook descriptions, but personal experiences--the excitement, the mishaps, the people you met, the animals you encountered, the challenges of solo travel, or other aspects of your journey.
Guidelines: Select a topic category from the three listed below; one submission per person on one of these topics:
1/Adventure Travel (hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, camping, climbing, etc.)
2/Eco Travel (write about your favorite eco resort or eco adventure)
3/Volunteer Travel (tell us what it's like to build houses or count turtles or repair trails in exotic locations)
Submission Details:
-Essay length: 350-500 words maximum.
-3 Sidebars: 100 words describing a "What to Do" activity; 100 words highlighting a special "Where to Go" attraction at or near the location; 100 words on other "Don't Miss" special attractions or activities. Each sidebar should contain contact information for lodging and, if necessary, equipment rental, at destination.

-Essay and three sidebars due by July 15, 2008.
-Material should be original and not previously published. Entrants must be 18 or older. And, it's probably only fair to say we can't accept entries from employees of the companies listed above, from tour company operators, or from tourist authority employees. Sorry.
-By submitting material, you are granting FitnessTravelGear the first right to publish the material.
-If your essay is one of the winners, we will be asking for 4-12 digital images, with captions, from your trip. Please do not send photos with your submission.
-Please submit essay, plus three sidebars, in the text of an email, to contest@fitnesstravelgear.com . (No attachments, please.) Include your name and contact email address. Please write "Essay Contest" in the subject line of your email. Thanks.

Why seven prizes?
It's an odd number, but why not? Five just didn't seem to be enough, ten seemed like too many.
