Coldpruf’s Classic Crew top, available in men’s and women’s sizes, is a lightweight merino base layer designed for outdoor activities in cold weather.
Made out of 100% merino wool, the Classis Crew does a good job of keeping my body temperature regulated by breathing and wicking away sweat. I’m a big merino fan because it keeps me warm when it’s cold outside and helps me not overheat when I’m active.
I tested the women’s Coldpruf’s Classic Crew top, and found that it performed as expected. It’s comfortable, warm, breathable, and does a good job of wicking. I’ve worn in alone or under a jacket in temperatures from 60 degrees F down to just below freezing. For power walks in 40-50 degree weather it’s all I need under a rain shell. For colder temps, I add a middle layer or switch to an insulation jacket with ventilation panels under the arms. In all situations, it’s done exactly what I needed it to do.
Since I often come home and jump right into a project or making dinner, it’s a good thing that my Coldpruf Classic Crew top dries quickly and resists odor. I rarely have the time to change clothes or shower before I take care of all my early evening “to do” list items.
The Coldpruf Classic Crew has a nice ribbed neckline. I like that it’s a bit lower than some athletic tops since I often wear it with jeans as an “every day” top. The princess seams help give the shirt a nice fit for someone like me who has a big chest. Since all the seams are flat, I didn’t feel them at all. I found a pretty good fit with this top, although it was a smudge big in the shoulders. It’s designed for a shorter, stouter woman that me, though. At 6′ tall, I found the top too short through the sleeves and torso. I’m sure most women won’t have that problem.
One of the features I really noticed was the tag-free collar. It’s so nice not having a tag scratching the back of my neck!
The Coldpruf Classic Crew is available in Almond and in Black, in women’s sizes S-2XL. The men’s Coldpruf Classic Crew comes in Black and Commando green in sizes S-2XL. Read our review of the Coldpruf Classic Pant.
